He is a warrior by nature, and feels like he has to protect everyone.” “Well, you just tell him to put on his big girl panties and just give us a chance. We are making progress. We just can’t risk that right now.” Marcus burst into laughter. God, but he adored this woman! “I did,” he chuckled, “Just not in those specific words.” He could only imagine his brothers reaction if he had! “Okay. Not just the history and traditions of the indigenous people that populate the area and the novel, but the adventurous spirit of the outsiders who chose to make Alaska their home. The author’s use of detail and description really grounds the story in every day life that is ordinary in many ways, but surprising, and even extraordinary at other times. Some of those details are poignant, a little bizarre and funny all at the same time–like how PR got his name and why he prefers to use initials. In fact, there’s a lot to like in the PR’s family and other secondary characters, including Brenda’s coworkers at the law firm where she’s employed. Fans of steamy romance will find a fresh take on the hunky male in pursuit of the woman of his dreams in this book. The writing is top-notch–a pleasure to read–and the story is a page turner. I couldn’t put my Kindle down. The characters were all very well-developed, the plot was amazingly deft and devious, and the “magical” twist smacked of excellent research and clever story development.
This novel is a keeper, an entertaining read and an on-the-edge-of-your-seat mystery-lover’s nirvana.

February 19, 2018Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseIn years past, poetry was written and enjoyed by many, today there is the idea, including among some professors, (who I have heard say, they don’t understand poetry.) That insinuates that a good or great poem is something that is indecipherable to most.
I am not one of them, as with great poets, such as Maya Angelou, Robert Stevenson, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, there is a story in the poems, a sense of place and emotion flowing through the verses. ‘A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS,’ by Sherrill S. Cannon is one such book.
It is rich in emotion, stories flow through the verses, and tales of love and loss are ripe within its pages. It is a glorious book that should be savored from start to finish and this reader feels that one would have to be devoid of life experience not to find many in this book that do not strike a cord deep inside of them.
Ms. Cannon’s poetry takes on the issues of grief, dying, being the object of idolatry, as, in her poem Pedestal, love, loss, and letting go. A magnificent journey through life.
A few of those that struck a deep chord in me was ‘Pedestals,’ That tells us the tale of someone who is stuck upon a pedestal and cannot become truly human for fear of losing their love. ‘The Real Me,’ that speaks of the little part of oneself that is seldom if ever shown to anyone. ‘To See The Future,’ shows us all that we might lose if we could see the future. For we would no longer be living in the present, the joy, sorrow, love, grief, beauty, and glory of life would be forever shaded with the knowledge of what’s to come. ‘Does Memory Last,’ a question each of us may ponder, when we lose a loved one or are facing death. ‘Old Woman,’ is a poignant look at the young woman that exists in all, under the veil of wrinkles and aging.
There were so many poems in this book that touched cords deeply within me, as to bring smiles to my lips, joy to my heart, thoughtfulness to my mind and grief inside of me.
A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS is an astoundingly, wonderous trip through the thoughts, life, and emotions we all go through in life.
In the pages of this book, everyone will find something that will help them grow or understand themselves better. I highly recommend it.

I was more than pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up loving this book. I don’t often read Middle Grade fantasy (or much Middle Grade at all, to be honest) so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. But I can confidently say that The Last Timekeepers is a series that will probably appeal to you no matter how old you are. It’s that perfect mix of real world humor and pure escapism into an alternate reality, plus there’s a good bit of historical fiction thrown in (which I always love).
The Last Timekeepers are made up of a fun cast of five kids and two adults who are thrown together due to circumstance and destiny. They are given the extremely important role of making sure that history unfolds as it should and that everything stays cool with the timeline. I love, love, LOVE time travel stories, so I was already well on board with this theme, but I found myself truly pulled into the story because of the wonderful way the characters were drawn. The story itself has a lot of funny parts to it and a lot of the dialogue is downright hilarious. I could totally see real kids talking to each other like this. I was also completely charmed by the two adults who accompany them. John, a brilliant archaeologist, and Melody, a good-witch type of character.
Overall this is just an awesome book and I’m really looking forward to diving into the rest of the series. If Martin had known the truth about Elaine’s past he would have been able to help her but her fear of the truth became her reality and the fact that they loved each other didn’t seem to be enough. Elaine came up with a solution she thought would be for the best. Martin went along with her plan but it put him in a compromised position and very unhappy, but he loved his wife so much he agreed to live her lie.
The stakes were very high but Martin thought in time he could change her mind but as the years passed the only thing that changed was Elaine. She became withdrawn and uneasy and finally when things got out of hand and Martin couldn’t control anything that happened it was a downward spiral and everything they had worked to achieve began to crumble.
Could Martin save his wife from herself? Would Elaine let that happen?

Screenplays happen to be one of my favorite things to read, so when I saw this book was based off one of the author’s screenplays I couldn’t wait to check it out. I can usually tell when a book is written this way because the dialogue and characters are so strong that you can actually picture the novel taking place in front of you. This is certainly a writing strength that this author possesses, which makes me excited for future work.
When it comes to the story, I really enjoyed the plot very much. I don’t want to divulge too many details, but you will certainly want to read this book all of the way through. Some of the characters are a bit difficult to figure out, but that makes the story a lot more interesting in my eyes. I think, it tackles some lessons in life that many face, but won’t cause you to spend a weekend crying over the ending if you plan on reading this in public.
