This was my first Emlyn Goode Mystery, but it won’t be my last! Author Susan Lynn Solomon has created a wonderful cozy mystery series, and this holiday novella is a delightful crash course into it.
When the police throw a Christmas bash, it is merry mayhem as everyone is surprised by the grisly secret Santa gift. Although her cop boyfriend tells her repeatedly to stay out of it, Emlyn Good tries to figure out the mystery. After all, where else will she get material for her next book. As the story progresses, readers get to know Emlyn, her family and cats well. While it is clear that the characters have, for the most part, been introduced and developed previously, Ms. Solomon presented her characters in a way that I felt I knew them.
‘Twas The Season is a good holiday cozy mystery that fans of the series are sure to enjoy.
Sherrill S. Cannon’s second book of poetry contains messages written through the years in poetic form that put feelings into words. As a teacher, many of her poems helped counsel troubled teens and friends.
There are three sections in the book: Heads, Spinning, and Tails … (Love & Loss: Coin Toss?). The variety of lyrical poetry forms include free verse, blank verse, haiku, and sonnets, while some are just playing with words!
Hopefully, this is also a book of healing.
M. M. Bishop Award-winning author and poet5.0 out of 5 stars THE FINEST POEMS OF OUR GENERATIONReviewed in the United States on May 1, 2019Verified PurchaseA Dime is a Sign: Poems of Love and Loss (Feelings Into Words) by Sherrill S. Cannon walks us through emotions that we all feel. It is a glorious collection of some of the most beautiful poems of our generation. There wasn’t one that didn’t strike some cord in my heart and soul, to lie there and make me weep for loss or fill my heart with the glory of love. Some of those that struck me the deepest were ‘Wall of Apprehension,’ a poem of fear to allow another in. Perhaps, the other will reject what you are, or you will feel by their response that you were a bother. ‘You, Friendship – I Love,’ helped me to realize that my shutting others out, for fear that my gestures would be mistaken for something else and I would find despair in the trying. And ‘Premature Goodbye,’ hit a chord deep in me for all those that I walked away from or that walked away from me, without the chance of explanation or renewal. Ms. Cannon, outdid herself ‘A Dime is a Sign’ for she speaks directly to our hearts and souls. Whether it be a love poem or a poem of loss and sadness, this book holds something that will touch everyone. It is a book to be cherished, reread, and savored time and again, for, in it, we will find our common humanity, our dreams of love, fear of loss and rejection, the joy of being, and we will grow more fully as humans.

Travel through time, encounter witches as they move about their day, be enchanted by childhood fairies, and slay dragons from tales of old. Encounter ordinary people in extraordinary situations, and rocket through space to a wasted planet that auctions its one exportable product… women.
As in life, Twisted Tales from the Universe offers a range of stories that include humor, murder, love, and situations that never end quite the way one would expect.
These stories are very well written. The author draws you into the story with her attention to detail and her obvious understanding of human nature. Then, on top of all that, she gives you a twist ending that is both surprising and plausible. This book is definitely worth the read.
This story is about a promise I made to my mother to take care of her through her Alzheimer’s disease nightmare. The book includes my mother’s own thoughts from her journal about her ordeals with the various stages of this debilitating and dehumanizing condition. Her outlook on life was remarkable, and although her mind began to wander, she never lost sight of who she was, her sense of humor, or her family. This is the story of someone whose courage went beyond what most people could endure, and whose never-dying zest for life kept her alive. I hope our story will help others in coping with this difficult and demanding affliction.
Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2018Verified PurchaseUplifting in its sincerity; illuminating in its wisdom; heartbreaking in its candor, A DAUGHTER’S PROMISE by prolific writer and book reviewer Fran Lewis is the story of her mother Ruth’s journey through Alzheimer’s Disease. Written from the points of view of both Ruth and Fran, the book gives readers insight into the mind and heart of the sufferer, as well as of the caregiver, dual perspectives not often available in other literary pieces of this kind. “Something has overtaken my thoughts, mind, and thinking skills. But what? I have no idea. Slowly, methodically, and carefully, like a book with its chapters outlined and set in type to be published and printed, my world seems dimmer and my memory all fogged up as this entity takes hold within the recesses of my mind, ready to print out and publish my future…” In words gleaned from Ruth’s journals she kept during much of her illness, Fran, her mother’s caregiver and chronicler, offers to the world in this outstanding book an intimate story readers will not soon forget. In addition to Ruth’s journal writings, it brims with Fran’s observations, expressions of her feelings, as well as helpful hints in the care of afflicted people of this disease, including valuable professional resources. In its essence, it is a grateful, loyal, and brave daughter’s tribute to her remarkable mother, and the extraordinary steps she takes to remain faithful to her promise to her mother not to place her in a nursing home, or any other outside facility.
This book is about the breaking and restoration of a human spirit. It is based on the book of Job. It tells of satan taking over the life of a human being whose greatest desire was to serve Jesus.Like Job, satan desired to make her curse God and die spiritually. This is an exposé of satan’s tactics and how we can free and protect ourselves from the power of satan and sin.His objective was also to prevent the writing of this book. As you can see, he failed in this.Because Jesus is Lord.
Such a helpful book!Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2017A wonderful, inspired book! I read it twice, cover to cover. I also purchased several other copies to give as gifts. This book has something for every person in it. When I first started reading it, it opened my eyes to a totally different way to view others and to love others. It is one woman’s journey through trials to finding a relationship with Jesus. I definitely recommend it to women (and men) of all ages.
Former Army Captain, Frank Atherton, has left the dangerous life of a soldier behind. Retired from the military, he now works in a large nursing home facility, as assistant director. Things are pretty quiet, until the annoying blister of a man, Ralph Penwarren arrives, doing his best to break into his mother’s apartment. Soon after his arrival, Frank meets the lovely new psychiatrist on staff, Marka Ventimiglia, who takes his breath away. Their relationship seems to be moving swiftly ahead, until Ralph Penwarren is seriously injured by a bad fall. If that weren’t enough, Frank’s office is trashed, his car vandalized, and a dead man is found in the ravine behind his house. Are the incidents related, or simply a series of alarming coincidences?
