DARE TO WALK IN THEIR WORLD

Can a Welsh legend, born in the 15th century, still be relevant in the 21st century?

“I have walked this world for 410 years, with 170 years having passed since I assumed the role of Alpha of the Cŵn Annwn. In that time, I have seen the world change dramatically from an agrarian society to one where common words include terms like ‘global warming’ due to the pollution levels engendered by mankind’s activities in less than a couple of centuries. I have found my Mate, I have lost close family, and throughout, I have remained true to my promise to my Goddess.”

“I harvest souls.”

“My duty lies with my Goddess, who has tasked me with bringing her the souls of evil-doers. Strange how they seem a tad reluctant to pay for their evil. But there is more to my role than that. For all the evil in the world, there are innocents, and as the gatekeeper to the Underworld, not the Hell that modern religions would suggest, but a place of rest, my Goddess has charged me to bring those for whom a reward for their suffering is due. For them, there is the choice of rest, or rebirth. Most choose rest, and paradise for each is different.”

“I was born Gabriel Black, although for the last few centuries, I have been known as Gavril Negrescu. These are our tales of my Mate and my Pack, our sorrows and our triumphs. Perhaps one day, evil will be no more. I am not holding my breath.”

“Alpha” is the first volume in “The Diaries of the Cwn Annwn” series and may be read as a stand-alone novel. Gavril and his Mate must lead their Pack through an ever changing world. Has mankind evolved enough that they are no longer needed?

Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseThis is really a complex book with lots of interesting angles and action. Fane is a hellhound bound in servitude to a Queen of the underworld when she chooses him to be alpha of her hellhound pack. You start off wondering how you’re going to like this guy because he pretty much detests humans and uses them to feed his queen, but the story didn’t detail that much. He’s very protective of his pack and especially his sister, Roxana. So when a female hellhound name Stephania who is a hunter shows up out of the blue and claims to be a member of his pack, Fane’s suspicious. She claims the queen sent her on a special mission which is where she’s been for the last 55 years, but Fane is not getting the whole story from her and he doesn’t like it. He sees potential in her though and makes her lead hunter. But Stephania has an uphill battle to fight to be accepted by the pack.
There is something Fane finds intriguing about Stephania, but he doesn’t want to admit it to himself. There is a lot of pull and tug between the two, attraction and mistrust. But you do see the softer side of Fane come out with Stephania who complements him quite well and she challenges him too.
I liked the romance element very much as well as all the internal and external challenges of the two main characters. I love PNR and this book did not disappoint. I do think the book could stand a good edit, but the few errors definitely did not distract from the story itself.

What makes Casimir Gosselin tick? CYSGODION BY JO PILSWORTH

Casimir Gosselin. If Fane was bad, Casimir was well beyond that. A psychopath and barely leashed by his sire, the Alpha of the Gosselin Pack. If there was one thing on which both the Cwn Annwn and the Anghelescu Hellhounds knew, it was that Casimir Gosselin was their enemy.

You have the picture? I was the personification of psychopathically evil. Strangely enough, the encouragement to write my side of the story has come from my sister, Alix Gosselin, now mated to Bran Cadwgan, Beta of the Cwn Annwn. Now, I could give you some clues. One thing is certain, I am not some sad, misunderstood being. I own what I have done and to whom I have done it. The question is whether you think that what lies in the shadows is justified.CYSGODIONTEASER

Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2020Verified PurchaseIn this book, we’re given an in-depth look into Casimir’s past, a look that left me with the impression that I had him all wrong. As the middle son to the Alpha of the pack, he was groomed to be Beta while his older brother, Alpha. Pack life is no easy gig though and survival isn’t guaranteed. It’s that which drove him to become Psycho Gosselin.

When he is eventually freed from his role, he feed the need to mend things with his half-sister. I loved the depth of the bonds that Casimir felt for her and his mother. Even though he was largely an unlikeable character, there were glimpses into his personality that made me feel as if he could be so much more. The things his father put him through scarred him deeply, but I was left with the impression that there is hope for Casimir in the future. Even for all he’s been through, I don’t believe he was truly a psychopath.

REVIEW

Gweniver4.0 out of 5 stars Were-Bear Paranormal RomanceReviewed in the United States on July 30, 2018Verified Purchase

Jo Pilsworth has created a very interesting universe of magical creature, with a prominent role for shifters and paranormal romance. In this book we follow the story of the tormented love at first sight two were-bears. There are many characters from other books who show up in the story, which can make it a little confusing if you’re trying to keep up with who is who. While there is a lot of adventure, the focus is on the romantic relationship between Sergei and Kaitlyn/Karma.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something different.Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2018

This is an unusual book as you’re looking through the eyes of Fane a young hellhound raised on the periphery of the pack with his sister Roxana. At the start, the reader gets an insight into the hellhound pack and the struggle for status and dominance. When their mother dies, the Queen sees potential in Fane and trains him to be a successful Alpha. Both brother and sister learn the skills and acquire abilities in preparation for going topside and into the human world. Once he becomes an Alpha, his loyalty is entirely to his queen, and with that, he is tasked with the destruction of the Lupie pack. Fane takes on the traits of a motorbike loving geek, interested in computers and electronics. Likewise, Roxana hides her beauty under baggy clothes and enjoys fixing bikes. Then once above ground, a mysterious visitor Stephania appears and claims to be a previous member of the pack. Fane is suspicious as she could have been turned by another pack but also feels attraction.
This book is an interesting struggle with one’s own pack, other packs and humans. At first, I was confused but so glad I persevered as the story developed into a page-turning adventure. I enjoyed being in such a different world and seeing things from another perspective. Those who enjoyed the ‘Twilight’ series may also enjoy this one.
