These stories are very well written. The author draws you into the story with her attention to detail and her obvious understanding of human nature. Then, on top of all that, she gives you a twist ending that is both surprising and plausible. This book is definitely worth the read.

Twisted Tales from the Desert – an anthology of short stories with twisted views and endings. MARI COLLIER

In this collection you will find humor, murder, a love story involving a ghost, an inhabited ghost town, a Fairy Godmother tale unlike anything you would expect, and more.

NOTE: Contains content considered unsuitable for readers 17 and under.

Bjonsmom4.0 out of 5 stars A Gentler TwistReviewed in the United States on April 21, 2021Verified PurchaseI’ve now read all three of Collier’s Twisted Tales, and found this one a gentler collection, perhaps a bit more traditional than the previous two. The scenarios are just as imaginative, but far less bizarre and creepy. The characters are more relatable, more like regular folk, who find themselves in extraordinary situations – but the twisty end is there: surprising, ironic, and oh, my!
Who among us hasn’t hoped to hit a big money payoff? Or felt the presence of a loved one who has passed on? Believe in ghosts? Maybe not, but how do you explain two “entities” in an eternal battle for male/female dominance shape shifting before your eyes? Conversations on either side of a radio “Portal” result in an identity switch. There are Bad Seeds, a battered wife fantasizing a way out and driven to the brink, a Fairy Godmother (be careful what you wish for). There’s a stunning reminder to always maintain “control” while driving; and watch out for that sculpture of a Desert Iguana.
I gave the book four stars because one of the stories is published in a previous collection, although it is an intriguing adventure. Pick up this final anthology and make your collection complete.

Short stories with unexpected twists and turns.Twisted Tales From The Northwest (Star Lady Tales Book 1)MARI COLLIER

In this collection of short stories, you’ll meet vampires, zombies, elves, and aliens. You’ll step into an old haunted house. You’ll even witness a trial of the Kafkaesque sort, set in the distant year 2668.

But you’ll never guess how any of these stories are going to end.

Twisted Tales from the Northwest are chilling, subtle stories of latent horror. There’s not much blood spilt, but still, maybe you should refrain from reading this one at night.

Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2016Verified PurchaseI don’t know exactly how to review these stories except to say they were very well written, very entertaining and very worthwhile reading. I loved the completion of the book and each of the stories resonated. I am so used to reading a continuous tale that a series of stories such as these is almost a shock as each story ends and a new one begins. But no matter. Each was entertaining in its own right and in its own way. All the tales put together make a fine presentation worthwhile for any group of readers.

Berk Rourke5.0 out of 5 starsWomen are Leaders, mostly more capably than men.

December 31, 2018Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseThe makings of this story lie in the first of Ms. Collier’s books of Tonath which told of the birth of a young girl named Marika. She was a descendant of the Justinians, space travelers who settled Tonath earlier. Her brilliance and ability as an engineer enabled a whole new generation of Tonathians to escape the rigors of “star shifts” causing major catastrophes on Tonath. If you love a good science fiction novel then you should start with the first Mari Collier wrote and read through her entire series of books. They are all excellent, present exceptional characters well-drafted, and storylines which keep you reading furiously. I thoroughly enjoyed this tale of a woman coming of age, becoming a leader despite all the machinations of self-serving men. Women grace the lives of all who have contact with them. Mari Collier graces us all with her skills as an author.

CURL UP WITH A SCI-FI ADVENTURE! THE SILVER AND THE GREEN BY MARI COLLIER

THE SILVER AND THE GREEN CHRONICLES OF TONATH BOOK 2

World Building Sci-Fi Western With a Twist!

December 20, 2018Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase“For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver.” -Martin Luther

There’s a thread of unity amid battles, gunfights and arguments that is woven through this Sci-Fi Western novel from the beginning until the end. These factions are Silver or Green, something the inhabitants of Tonath find disheartening, because the disagreements about the correct star path leads to war and suffering. One character by the name of Brother Amos persists. As a Seeker, he’s rather impartial to war. In his opinion, a good map of the stars will provide clear answers and the best Pathway. Only time will tell which side, is correct about their assumptions. There are so many stars that need to be charted and many things to learn. We find him traveling with a group of Wayfarers, moving as far away from danger as possible. Among the Wayfarers is Venta, a single woman with a dream about building a refuge for divorced women called the Haven–and Jack Donald–a man with two hearts–from Thalia—another planet–who loves her. They need to escape the Green Marauders, Bentz and the Mechs so that Brother Amos can build an institute of his own and say, “We are neither Silver, nor Green. We are the Silver and the Green.”

“The ending was all science fiction and wrapped tightly with romance. What a captivating storyline! This author has amazing talent!” – Sea Witch by Carol Ann Kauffman

Dr. Laura Martin, Chief Extraterrestrial Life Scientist at The Touchstone Institute of Oceanographic Research, noticed troubling but subtle changes in the Atlantic Ocean. Before she could make sense of it all, her longtime assistant abruptly walked out. Laura hired young, handsome Scott Conner to be her personal assistant. Mayhem ensued, mainly because of Zara, the mermaid/siren/monster in the basement of the Touchstone Institute, who eyed on Scott as her possible mate in a plot for total domination of planet Earth.“The Touchstone Institute of Oceanographic Research is the most fantastic, exhilarating place on the planet to work. It is high-energy, exciting, sometimes maddening, often frightening, heart-pounding work. It’s not a job. It’s a lifetime commitment. It gets in your blood. It grabs you by the throat and possesses you, body and soul. And it is work. If you’re not prepared to work your ass off day in and day out, weekends, holidays, your birthday, and your mamma’s birthday, leave now.”

Romance, Aliens and a Fantastic Story Line!

I love how Carol Ann Kauffman writes her stories. Sea Witch is not a part of the Time After Time series, but it sure could be. She wrote the Sea Witch the same way, love and romance like no others. That feeling of they knew each other before, even though they didn’t. The excitement of finding true love and being together. The way the characters intertwined, the loss of one of them, only to be found again. Awwwwwe! True Love!
Dr Laura Martin is the Chief Exraterrestrial Life Scientist at The Touchstone Institute of Oceanographic Research. Dr Martin is looking for a research assistant. She interviewed a few ladies and next was a man. She didn’t want a man, she got along better with women. But her colleague told her to give him a chance.
Dr Benjamin Scott Conner, is up next for the interview and is excited beyond means. He has admired Dr Martin for a very long time and it’s his dream to work with her, be next to her, love her and just have her in his arms. Well he didn’t have a chance. She already had him kicked to the curb in her mind, but he talked her into giving him a 2 week chance, unpaid. She basically had no choice. Scott, that’s what everyone calls him, was very over qualified and she asked to make him something more along the line of his degrees.
Now Dr Martin has an alien woman in a holding tank for 20 year and has mad a friendship with her. But when she sees Scott, the alien goes nuts screaming that he is her mate. He has no idea what she I talking about. Zara, the name given to the alien, becomes very hostile and has to be calmed with medication. Lara and Scott try to figure out what is going on and by talking about Scott’s background, Lara has an idea how he is connected to Zara. To find out, they have to go to his Mothers home in France. This is where you hold on to the edge of your seat and hold your breath.
Sea Witch is an Romance with SciFi and mystery added in. What a great combination! I was trying to figure it all out along the way and was surprised, very surprised to say the least at the last few chapters. The ending was all science fiction and wrapped tightly with romance. What a captivating storyline! This author has amazing talent!
