A Poet’s Journey: Sunlight and Shadows
I finally had the opportunity to read Marta Moran Bishop’s book, “A Poet’s Journey: Sunlight and Shadows” and just loved it! I found so many verses that “hit home” with me and an equal number of verses which tested all the emotions one encounters throughout their life. Highly recommended!
STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART…
I truly enjoyed this collection of poems from Marta Moran Bishop. The deep emotions, observations, and insights come straight from her heart onto the page. “Life’s Miracles,” one of my favorites, talks about how busy society is, so focused on the television that we forget to focus on life. The poet’s style is short and simple, but abounding in truth.
The poems she wrote for her mother and sister, “A Tribute To My Mother,” and “I’m Not Ready To Lose My Sister,” are poignant, heart-wrenching, beautiful, and immensely relatable. In other poems, her sharp words for those who have hurt her pack a wallop. These poems make the reader think about her/his own life and those who have strayed, betrayed, or merely played with one’s emotions. What I love about Marta Moran Bishop’s work is that while vulnerable, she always shows her ability to rebound, to gather strength, and to help others by sharing her truths.
With an appreciative and loving eye for the outdoors, she has a keen and special way of embracing the nuances of nature.
The author’s first book, Wee Three: A Child’s World, remains one of my favorite books of children’s verse.
First, to say, I love books written by Marta Moran Bishop. Marta is a talented writer and poet, author of dozens of books. Saying that I already knew it will be another great read. This awesome children’s book made me smile again. It’s wonderfully written and will make happy both children and adults. Thank you, Marta, for your great talent!
This poetic collection triggers a perfect mindset for sitting back, relaxing and reminiscing about childhood, alone or with a young child. The verses are delightful and the illustrations are darling. My favorite is PUDDLES. A read well worth your time.
Wee Three: A Mother’s Love in Verse, began with a few simple verses written by Helen Springer Moran, Ms. Bishop’s grandmother. Marta Moran Bishop expanded those verses, wrote others and Wee Three was born.
Wee Three, is guaranteed to make you smile, laugh, and remember the days of your own youth.
It is a highly entertaining read for both children and adults and will delight the reader with its simple verses. If you enjoyed, A.A. Milne or Robert Louis Stevenson’s children’s verses, you are sure to love Ms. Bishop’s, Wee Three: A Mother’s Love in Verse.
Her poems remind us of a child’s world, full of observations and discoveries. As seen through a child’s eyes we view, animals, bugs, and plant life. Many of the funny poems tell of worms, bees, clever cats, and dogs. The poems also speak to us of nature, rain, snow, and rainbows, describing them from a charmingly wonderful children’s perception.
Ms. Bishop’s poetry gives us a unique opportunity to see the world through the eyes of an innocent child. I am convinced that Marta still lives as an inquisitive little girl who is interested in everything.
