I Love Cat Collier Mysteries!

I absolutely love these mysteries! I love Cat Collier and how she rolls with life. I’d die to have her fiancé Carter and his father as my in law. Nola cracks me up and this time I really thought she would fashion herself out of trouble. I love the mystery part of the book and how all the books tie together. This one was really good because of the other books being brought back in and you got some answers. These characters are fabulous together and they make the book exciting. I can’t wait until the next book to come out!

“The “corpse magnet” is back!” – Dead Men Don’t Swing (Laura & Gerry Mystery #4) by Karen Vaughan

#COZIES #MYSTERY, #LAURAANDGERRY, #SHERLOCK/HOLMES

Laura and Gerry are at it again. Death finds them close to home when a tenant is found in the dumpster behind their apartment building. Laura is thrust into the “who killed Denny?” mystery while she does battle with a tenant and dodges a school janitor. The life of a college student is never boring, but she wishes it would be!
Dead Men Don’t Swing is a biting, funny, deliciously bawdy and fast-paced murder mystery in which “death by sexual misadventure and a wayward poisonous snake” (among other things) make for pure entertainment gold.”

The “corpse magnet” is back!

Dead Men Don’t Swing is Karen Vaughan’s bawdy, comedic take on amateur sleuthing. It’s book four in her Laura & Gerry Mystery series. Lots of detective lingo is delivered with wit and sarcasm by the protagonist, Laura. That’s not surprising if you’ve read Vaughan’s previous books in the series, and given the fact that the author has done a bit of stand-up comedy. In this book, Laura and her husband Gerry are back dealing with another murder investigation since, as Laura explains, she’s a ‘corpse magnet.’ This time a dead body turns up in a dumpster at the apartment complex where Laura and Gerry are managers, having fallen to his death from the balcony above. Not likely an accident—the guy is wearing boxer shorts and sporting a tricked-out stiletto in his forehead. Oh yeah, he’s missing some sensitive body parts—yikes!Things are not as they seem in this suburban Canadian apartment complex. It turns out there’s a whole lot of hanky-panky going on in this mid-rise Peyton Place, some of it pretty kinky stuff, too. There’s no shortage of pervs and perps on any floor, in addition to the ever-annoying, tenant-from-hell, Stella. As I type the name, I hear Marlon Brando screaming it at the top of his lungs in A Streetcar Named Desire. And, speaking of movies, the photographer played by Jimmy Stewart in Hitchcock’s Rear Window, would have been hard-pressed to know where to shoot first with all the action going on in this complex!

Great Read

This was such a surprising read. I was expecting a suspenseful romance but it really was a thrill ride full of unexpected twists. The characters are unique and nothing is as it seems. Even the secondary characters grab your attention. As the story unfolded I truly loved that there were stakes that went so far beyond will they wont fall in love. That said the romance was perfect. There was a bond there that surpassed the natural and really Mark was just the perfect man. I look forward to reading more from this author soon. If you want a romance that is high in suspense yet still manages that sweet romantic feeling this is your book.

A cheeky take on a foul-mouthed British detective exiled to a Canadian metropolis

Can the Andrew Dice Clay of British detectives get in touch with his inner nice guy when banished to Toronto? One can only hope the renowned politeness of his new Canadian colleagues rubs off on him and quick once this defective detective opens his mouth to speak. The stream of inappropriate epithets is jarring, to say the least. It’s no wonder he was exiled to [North] America by his Manchester superiors. Nigel Holme’s is loathsome and, oh yes, he also let a serial killer escape after the man killed the woman he loved. Derilection of duty left him damaged personally and professionally. Needless to say, his new compatriots are not that thrilled to meet Nigel. He and his new partner, Kristen Sherlock [yes, Sherlock & Holmes] don’t hit it off, but she deploys her niceness to correct and control the out of control Brit. Kristen’s got trouble of her own, though. Not all Canadian police officers are nice, and there’s an especially nasty one who has it in for Kristen. Why? Well, that’s part of what this ‘whydunit’ is about. Can Sherlock avoid becoming a victim of her vicious colleague’s wrath? Can Holmes shed his barbarous ways so that he’s a suitable colleague and partner for anyone, anywhere? You’ll have to read Holmes in America to find out–tongue planted firmly in cheek.
