Magnetic Story.

What a magnetic story in Reckoning – One Degree of Separation by Gerald Darnell. I am a definite fan of this author!
Whatever this author writes, I read. This is another great Carson Reno story, and I swear, they keep getting better and better, more intriguing. And in each book, there is always something new to learn about Reno. Murder, corruption, various clues, and Carson. He always ends up in the middle of something and reading and seeing how the pieces are put together, is magnificent. This book deserves a second read! It is a very well-written plot, and I enjoyed it. It’s one of those embraceable stories. It’s definitely un-put-downable! It is always an honor to read this author’s books. A definite attention-grabber, so much I couldn’t put it down. Both thrilling and intriguing, all the way to the end. Masterfully written! Another Thrilling Carson Reno Mystery

Darnell pens a magnificent mystery thriller in Sin and Stilettos. This is book 21, yes I said 21, of Darnell’s Carson Reno series. First, I’m a big fan of Darnell’s writing and storytelling abilities. His imagination is something very impressive. I am also a big fan of Carson Reno. There is something about these suspenseful and intense mysteries that have interconnected stories, and they are filled with twists and turns. Just when you think you figured it out, another twist. So enjoyable. Darnell’s story is almost majestical as his words come to life, and Reno just jumps off the pages. Sin and Stilettos has an interesting set of characters, and it works even at a time gone by. It’s a book that you can’t put down until the end, where everything comes together, and still takes your breath away. You can read the Reno stories as standalone, but I recommend reading each one, and enjoying every mystery and every action of Carson Reno! I look forward to reading many more stories by this author. This book is a definite recommendation by Amy’s Bookshelf Reviews.

Another great Carson Reno story!

Carson is now on the other side of the law, or at least that’s the way it looks. It’s a great new story for Carson, and full of unpredictable twists and mysteries. I am a big fan of Darnell and of course, Carson, so I was very excited to read this new story. It’s one of my favorites of the series, but of course, Carson is one of my favorite characters. It’s a hard-hitting, magnificent bout of storytelling. Couldn’t put it down until the end!

Book a Room at the Peabody Hotel

Having read my first Carson Reno novel, ‘Dead End,’ the 13th in this hard-boiled, detective Mystery series, I eagerly selected another—‘Shadows and Lies,’ the 16th standalone book. Drawn to the hallmark ring tones of the Sixties, and the aura of actual places cited by the author, I willingly booked a room at the Peabody Hotel for my reading sojourn.

The prominent Dumont family, proprietors of the prestigious Dumont Hotel chain under the auspices of Matthew Dumont, provide a strong case for Carson Reno to take on via his Drake Detective Agency at the Peabody. For starters, Matthew’s son Brigham’s third wife is missing. The first one died under mysterious circumstances. You’ll find out if the second was murdered by a serial killer or not.

Besides the whodunit, like Reno, you’ll want to know what else is going on—and why!

If all of the tantalizing tidbits of this novel aren’t enough for you—serial killers, a twenty-year-old armed robbery, murders left and right, greed, infidelity, lies, Mob influence, bogus security reports, and false identities—there are all the other hallmark ring tones of the Sixties you become privy to:

Constantly lighting up. Gumshoes wearing suits. Conducting biz inside a lounge or bar knocking back a few beers or Jack Daniels and coke. And, dig these character names: Cheese, Spider Webb, Tucker Baggett, Rags Tobin, and John Dho.

I highly recommend “tunneling” through ‘Shadows and Lies’! However, if Lydia Longstreet can’t get a straight answer from Carson Reno

Another great Carson Reno mystery

I haven’t read all of the Carson Reno books, however, I did read the last book in the series and really enjoyed it. I was really glad to have been given a chance to read the next book in the series and this one didn’t disappoint either.

What I enjoy about these books is that despite them being set in the 1960s, they don’t read like that. Darnell gives his books and writing a fresh feel to them and readjust as highly as any top-notch crime/thriller book written in our current time. The books are always fast-paced and have plenty of going on to keep you hooked throughout. I would definitely recommend this series to anybody who likes a good crime read. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next one!

I realize this is a quick review but what can you say when there’s nothing negative and a complete five-star rating! This was a fantastic read and something I will keep recommending.

The Black and White pictures mixed in with the story is classic! The Jack Daniels, the butcher knife, and the severed finger. “Exciting! Total Page-Turner” – Murder my Darling (Carson Reno Mystery Series Book 17) by Award-Winning Author Gerald W. Darnell

Exciting! Total Page-Turner

This was the first time I read one of Mr. Carson Reno’s, a private detective’s, adventures and I couldn’t put it down. I am more of a romance/fantasy reader myself, but the story is so well-developed that it caught my attention right from the beginning (the prologue) when the murder of a crime/mystery author takes place as soon as she types the last words to her newest manuscript and in the cabin of her boat. I must say that I didn’t find it clichè, but pretty poetic. Soon after, Mr. Reno takes the scene and, without having any recollection of his last hours or events and plus being unfortunate enough to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, he receives the honor of becoming the prime suspect in Darling’s murder (the boat’s Capitan murder being added to his charges just as well).“It’s not whiskey it’s Scotch, and you know how I hate that stuff. I wasn’t drinking… somebody hit me over the head and…and I guess used my gun to shoot…shoot whoever. I suppose somewhere in the process they poured a bottle of Scotch over me and put my handcuffs on the dead woman. I have no idea – I don’t know any more than what I’ve already told you.” As you can see, that doesn’t sound promising to help the detective. Still, the author plays a smart move as he invites us to travel a few hours into the past in order to get to know what has happened between our (main) characters and while also giving ourselves the chance to try to put some clues together and eventually solve the murder. “Ms. Darling, protection isn’t what I really do…”, Mr. Reno told Ms. Marlow Darling. Setting the mystery mood from the beginning, we soon find ourselves traveling from Memphis (Tennessee) to one of US’ most iconic and touristic places – welcome to New Orleans! – and where things aren’t always what they seem, while we join our detective in his search for Ms. Darling’s missing manuscript, his innocence, and, consequently, the truth. “I just need you to keep me out of jail so I can do what I need to do. This whole thing is nuts, and somebody has done a good job of framing me for two murders. I intend to find out who that ‘somebody’ is.” And so he does. “Murder my Darling” is an amazing novel and an exciting page-turner, which I truly recommend to anyone who might wish to dive into a great and original detective’s plot. And, in being not only a voracious reader but also a Brazilian myself, I feel like I need to end this review by sharing that I actually felt as if I were traveling to the places where the scenes take action, courtesy of Mr. Gerald great writing skills.
