Wow! Can’t wait for the next book!
I love zombie books and this one is exceptional! Most of the characters are teenagers and deal with the zombies in their own way. Viral Dawn is filled with action, Zombies, and a touch of romance! It’s truly a new twist on the Zombie experience! I can’t wait for the next book! I highly recommend Viral Dawn!
It’s 2052 and Earth has lost two-thirds of its population to the Great War. Many more lives were lost to earthquakes, the Clover Virus, and the Death Plague. Years later, survivors were clumped into factions. Two of the factions, the Guild and the Brotherhood, have fought over medical supplies and food for years. The fight is coming to a head as manpower dwindles, and the struggle becomes one to gain numbers, even if said numbers are children… Griffin Storm is hiding out in Underground Atlanta. He’s an albino man that can manipulate glass and crystal, and he uses his special abilities to raid warehouses and old buildings for food and supplies for the abandoned children that live underground. During a raid, he meets Tassta Vinetti, a resident of the Brotherhood fortress. He is taken to the fortress and chaos ensues as Tassta, her twin brother Penn, and her uncle, try to keep their new visitor and his untold powers a secret. Griffin is the only survivor of the Guild’s deadly experiments, and they hunt for him because his survival will have dynamic consequences on the world. The Guild believes that Griffin will transform into a G.O.D., a genetically enhanced Omni-dimensional being with limitless abilities. Will Griffin transform into a G.O.D.? Will he save the children of the Underground from their tragic life? Only time will tell…

Looking forward to seeing where it goes next.
I really enjoyed this book. It has a great collection of characters, each with their own agendas and goals, and some with secret pasts too. The writing style is very natural and contains a lot of detail to sink your teeth into. I liked how easy it was to get an idea of just how much the world has changed before the time the story is set. It’s a bleak world, ravaged by war and disease, yet there is still hope. Two completely different people find a deep connection despite the overwhelming odds against them. I felt sorry for them both by the end of the story as they were put through so much, Griffin in particular. Without giving anything away to other readers, he faces a vicious internal fight between two very powerful sides. I suspect things are only going to get harder as the series continues too. I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes next. Hoping to see more of the elusive Guild Faction too. It’s a 5 from me, though, as I found the writing style so easy to read and enjoy.

Intriguing and suspenseful
A friend recommended this book to me, and I found it to be an incredibly exciting dystopian adventure. The characters are well-defined, and there’s a lovely slow-building romance. The main character, and Blood Master, Griffin, is complex and kind. Griffin is a survivor. Not only of the Great War, Clover Virus, and Death Plague but also of the cruel experiments of the evil Guild Faction. I found myself breathlessly rooting for Griffin as he struggles to hide his identity, and undergo a transformation, all while protecting orphaned children and the woman he loves.

In this case, the main character Casey only wants to take care of her mildly disabled foster brother Derek. But Casey is separated from Derek and reluctantly becomes the leader of a group of friends and strangers trying to survive the zombie outbreak.
Unlike other zombie apocalypse stories, Viral Dawn explains what caused the dead to begin walking and feeding on living humans. I don’t want to compare it to The Walking Dead but I do want to say that if Skyler Rankin was a writer on The Walking Dead TV series, I would still be watching it. The same old problem with shows like The Walking Dead or Lost always seems to appear after a season or two. Writers start to burn out and become unimaginative and repetitive. They always seem to fall back on writing in different groups of survivalists fighting each other and lose the imaginative science fiction aspects of the story. Not so with Viral Dawn.
Author Skyler Rankin has written an interesting, exciting story that takes readers in a different direction than you might expect. There is no predictability here. There are surprises around every corner. Viral Dawn is a true science fiction novel. Best of all, it doesn’t end in a cliffhanger. Although it is part of a series, it is a self-contained novel with an ending that has closure. I was not left hanging but I liked the book enough that I plan to read the sequel as soon as possible. A solid 5 stars for Viral Dawn by Skyler Rankin.

Having eagerly read Blood Master, I simply had to read this story too, especially knowing how imaginative and emotional this author’s creative mind was likely to be. Her stories ooze with great insight into the dynamics between characters while her imagination is just on full throttle, adding so much essence to the plot. The story is like a layered cake, with Griffin and Tassta’s romance simply added as a delicious icing on the top for me…my goodness, I swooned. But, the romantic part did not distract me from the suspenseful segments of the story. Just like in the Blood Master, the characters in Blood Phase are well-established and easily refreshed my recall of them so clearly in my head. Almost as if I was in the story, I got so caught up in it and I was compelled by my urges to read the story until I finished it, with the sun slowly peeking over the horizon in the morning. I can’t wait to read the next sequel!!! I hope they make a movie of this story…Imagine watching it in 3D! *swoons*

WARNING FOR 18+ ONLY
The G.O.D. series must be read in order
November 12, 2052: Earth has lost two-thirds of its population to the Great War. Many more lives have been lost to earthquakes, the Clover Virus, and the Death Plague. Years later, survivors are clumped into factions. Two of those factions—the Brotherhood and the Guild Faction—have battled over medical supplies and food for years. The fight is coming to a head as manpower dwindles, and the struggle becomes one to gain numbers, even if said numbers are children…Griffin Storm, an albino man kidnapped and dragged into the Brotherhood, has transformed into a G.O.D., a Genetically enhanced Omni-dimensional being. Two weeks in the brig, and Griffin’s released after it’s determined that he’s learned to control most of his god-like abilities. His abilities have grown almost as much as his love for Tassta Vinetti and his unfortunate bloodlust. His bond with Tassta’s twin brother, Penn, has grown as well and is cemented in secrets. Not disappointed! Griffin, having earned the trust of Fortress authorities, is set to be released from The Brig, much to the delight of Tassta, his sweetheart. Although Griffin still has a lot to learn about balancing his newfound abilities against his inherent humanity, overall he does well and has enough control over his abilities to prevent caving into his inner desires. As his and Tassta’s romance heats up, Griffin gets the horrifying news soon after his release, Griffin’s told that Guild agents and the notorious Trips (super-agents of the Guild) are in the Underground. He must now test his abilities to save the abandoned children that live there. Will Griffin rescue the children of the Underground from a tragic end? Will Tassta and Griffin’s love survive such turmoil? Can a G.O.D. forgive himself when death and destruction follow his every move? Read Blood Phase, the gripping second book in the G.O.D.s Series!

And I wasn’t disappointed!
I had read Blood Master previously and became enthralled with Griffin Storm’s character (for my review of Blood Master, click here). When I heard that Ms. Campbell was publishing the sequel, Blood Phase, I couldn’t wait to dig in. And I wasn’t disappointed!
As his and Tassta’s romance heats up, Griffin gets the horrifying news that the Guild Faction, specifically the Trips, have invaded Underground, and are holding the remaining children, Waylene, and Skylar hostage. The chain of events that follows may be too much for even a G.O.D. to take in, and all his training to control his potentially destructive powers may be undone. The only tempering force is his love for Tassta, her family, the children, and his friends in the Underground. Readers will be taken on a real emotional roller coaster as Griffin battles both the Guild Faction and the two halves of himself, at the same time. Again, I am truly in awe of Ms. Campbell’s character-developing abilities.
Absolutely loved it and cannot wait for the sequel. Well done again, Ms. Campbell.

The Irrevocable Series is a pretty clean YA dystopian series (end of the world
The Irrevocable Series is a pretty clean YA dystopian series (end of the world…. not zombie apocalypse). I enjoyed this series very much. I am definitely all for end-of-the-world books. I think my favorite part of this series was Bailey. The loss of the most important people in her life changed her from a pleasant to an angry at the world, bitter self-centered girl. Through each of the books, I could see and feel her growth as a person is trying to deal with everything. Book one sets up the series and books two and three are where all the good stuff happens (for me). These books are action-packed and full of twists and turns. The story is well-written and the main characters are relatable and real. There were a few too many side characters for me to keep straight in my head. All in all, this is a great series and I would recommend this to everyone!
What if your world changed in a split second, destroying everything you thought you knew and thrusting you into a world where your very survival depends on every move you make, every decision, and every step you take? Every. Move. Matters. An explosion at the army depot unleashes a deadly cloud carrying a genetically engineered virus that turns people into flesh-eating zombies. High school senior, Casey Williams has taken refuge at the school with friends and others who managed to survive the blast and ensuing viral outbreak. They’re safe. For now. But supplies are running short, and tempers are running shorter as Casey realizes the time is coming they will need to get out. She is determined to lead her friends to safety only to discover that she’s led them into even greater danger.
