Della and Munk, the elders and a whole cast of characters living in Alaska was a real reading treat for me. The way in which Ms MacFarlane crafts her story by asking questions right at the beginning, swept me into the book and never stopped sweeping me along, as the story progressed.

This is a romance, however it is much more. Never having been to Alaska, I was grateful that such a good writer was able to open my imaginings about the place. Her detail descriptions, realistic dialogue, and ability to connect this reader with the characters, major and minor, is why I keep buying Mac Farlane’s books. And I have a funny feeling there will be another instalment!

A great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb romance in AlaskaReviewed in the United States on April 6, 2015Verified PurchaseCougar Hunt (Copper River Romances Book 4) is the newest offering I’ve read from the talented Cherime MacFarlane. I have come to esteem Chermine for her Scottish series of historicals, as well as her Alaskan adventures, but Cougar Hunt is a romantic tale which makes Alaska not so much a character, but more a perfect background for her characters. Nevertheless, the pioneering spirit of Alaska pervades MacFarlane’s every book, and makes you want to cuddle up with a beloved before a roaring fire.

Cougar Hunt centers on Linda Rae (Lrae), struggling to overcome her checkered past. Deserted by her father, she feels unworthy of love. The details of this will wrench your heart, so I won’t spoil things for you.

Joey is the love interest in this story, has emotional problems of his own, the most pressing being he wants Lrae to love him.

Alaska can be a cold place for lovers, when passion is overcome by fears. The only cure for heartbreak here is to find reason to live and someone to love.

This tale, modern and yet mindful of the roots of romanticism, will fill you up, ignite your own heart, and make you remember all the loves you’ve had in days gone by.

The story is intriguing, gripping, at times scenic — Alaska is always around you, a place a bit stranger than where you’ve been before. And so is the chance of love, of forgiveness, even of rapture.

Nor does MacFarlane forget our lust for adventure; she merely translates it into modern, attainable form. This book is elegant, simple, and immensely readable. If the right person rads it, expect to see it as a tv miniseries or feature film.

I highly recommend Cougar Hunt, if you’re a woman or a man with blood running in your veins and an adventurous soul.

Jay and Leda’s story is so beautiful, as moving as the setting that wraps around it in such detail I could imagine being there with them. I enjoyed how Leda’s experience gave her a special understanding of Jay and his PTSD, as well as that her own anger issues made her real and someone that Jay wasn’t intimidated by. Her reasons for being angry, the school issues, added another layer of depth that showed us a side of both her and Jay that made them even more endearing. Jay’s brother and sister, and even his doctor were nicely drawn sinking me deeper into a reality where I am more an outsider more like the doctor. I also adored Licker. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series. I didn’t read any other parts, so I can attest that you can start right here as the story in this book is self -contained and fantastic.

Great steamy romance tinged with a hint of Northern Exposure-style quirkiness STALKING RED: A COPPER RIVER ROMANCE BY CHERIME MACFARLANE

Stalking Red (Copper River Romances Book 2) by [Cherime MacFarlane]

Red, Brenda Levere has been on her own for a very long time. PR, Paul Revere Jones comes from a big family, part Alaska Native and part white. When Red moves into his apartment complex, PR begins the hunt of a lifetime. He wants the prickly woman. Red throws a big glitch in his plans by getting involved with another man. PR continues his friendly interaction with Red as he bides his time. Reardon dumps Red and PR happily deepens their friendship. But Red is shy having been burned before. It is one tough hunt. Can he get her to the altar or will Red keep him at arms length as a friend with benefits?

Great steamy romance tinged with a hint of Northern Exposure-style quirkiness. Interesting characters, PR and Brenda, look for love in a unique setting. The grandeur and beauty of the Alaskan countryside is part of what gives this story a little something extra. Even more than that is the wonderful way in which the ethnic and cultural context enlivens their tale. Not just the history and traditions of the indigenous people that populate the area and the novel, but the adventurous spirit of the outsiders who chose to make Alaska their home. The author’s use of detail and description really grounds the story in every day life that is ordinary in many ways, but surprising, and even extraordinary at other times. Some of those details are poignant, a little bizarre and funny all at the same time–like how PR got his name and why he prefers to use initials. In fact, there’s a lot to like in the PR’s family and other secondary characters, including Brenda’s coworkers at the law firm where she’s employed. Fans of steamy romance will find a fresh take on the hunky male in pursuit of the woman of his dreams in this book. Challenges and obstacles to over come, too–like Brenda’s royally ticked off and unscrupulous ex-boyfriend. Will they figure it out? You’ll have to read the book yourself to find out. FIVE STARS

“Snagged” is the first of the Copper River Romances.
In some places in Alaska, there are only two places to socialize, the bar and the church. Dorcas’ family chose the church. Trying to find her path, she is spending the winter in a remote cabin. The pilot of a small plane crashes on the river ice. Dorcas pulls James out, saving his life.
James has been working alongside his father building the business for years. When he goes to Fairbanks to scout out a second location, his father is not happy about it. James leaves a day early. Far off course, his plane develops engine trouble over the Copper River. When he is tossed from the aircraft into the icy water, James thinks his life is over until the girl pulls him from the river.
There is a family connection which goes back over twenty-five years, something neither of the young people discovers until her family comes to spend Christmas at the remote cabin. Will an old lie tear the young couple apart? Will James’ father finally listen to the truth?

Blue Lady5.0 out of 5 stars Well Written Romance!Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2014Verified PurchaseThis is the first book in Author, Cherime MacFarland’s, Copper River Romance series and I love it. I was intrigued by this story for a number of reasons. I don’t know much about the state of Alaska but the author’s vivid descriptions of the frigidity of the setting and the associated exiguous life style of young Dorcas were realistic enough for me to curl up with a huge warm comforter!

It was also refreshing to read about a budding romance between two people who despite their strong physical attraction respect each others differing religious outlooks enough to maintain a friendship while sorting through their feelings for each other.

This book is well written and I highly recommend it to readers looking for a good romance.
