Aidan was born blind. Today was his eighth birthday. His father had promised him he could get a dog for his birthday. His father wanted a service dog, but Aidan wanted a dog to love. – Mercy by Mary Clark Dalton

Mercy hovered in the back of the cage at the shelter. She knew people were coming through the shelter looking for the perfect dog! Why put herself through more pain? Mercy had accepted the fact that no one was going to choose her long ago. All of the other dogs made fun of her homely face and wide-set-apart eyes. She didn’t have any friends. The keeper of the shelter tried to encourage Mercy, telling her that one day just the right family would come and take her home. Aidan was born blind. Today was his eighth birthday. His father had promised him he could get a dog for his birthday. His father wanted a service dog, but Aidan wanted a dog to love. As Aidan came to the end of the shelter, he was disappointed. He asked the owner, “Is this all the dogs you have?” “We have Mercy,” he said unenthusiastically. “Bring her to me!” As soon as Mercy stood before Aidan, he knew she was the one. She was trembling and afraid. “Don’t you see, Mom and Dad?” he said, smiling. “I can’t see what Mercy looks like, and she doesn’t care that I’m blind.” Follow Mercy and Aidan on their great adventure, proving once again, love truly is blind.

“I think the storyline is ideal for young children” – What do Bunnies do all Day by Judy Mastrangelo

Judy what do bunnies do all day

This little book of about 200 words will delight even the very young toddler. In this gentle story, illustrated by exquisite watercolors, Little Bunny learns that whatever he does is all right with Mother Bunny. Parents can use this story as an introduction to telling their own child that no matter what, he or she will still be loved.

Laura

A Child Can Relate

I think the storyline is ideal for young children. It is natural for a child to wonder, “What does a bunny do all day?” The book gives credible and understandable answers in the young bunny’s adventuresome day. Sweet drawings. I really like that the mother rabbit and the bunny are not depicted with long eyelashes and pointed noses as we often see in-store merchandise. This is a good bedtime story for a child because the last line reads, “Then she [Mother Bunny] fed Little Bunny his supper and put him to bed.”

Squirrelly loves to play but doesn’t like gathering acorns for the winter. – Squirrelly by Mary Clark Dalton

Squirrelly loved to play. In fact, there wasn’t a squirrel around who knew more acorn games than he did. He loved to make all the other squirrels laugh, and that he did time after time. All his friends would say, “Squirrelly, you’re the funniest squirrel around!” What he didn’t like though was working to store up for winter. ‘I have plenty of time,’ he would say when his father would warn him winter was coming soon.
