Woman Inside A second chance Alaska romance. CHERIME MACFARLANE

A second chance Alaska romance.
Trudy worked full time and a major side hustle to get enough money for her own slice of the American dream, land. Not just a box she slapped money down on, but acreage. Only problem, it’s in interior Alaska, where the temperature can fall below minus 25. Her next-door neighbor doesn’t think this cheechako will make it without a man. Trudy has no choice, there is no backup plan.
Deak has problems of his own. His wife died in an accident and he can’t move forward. Still, something about his new neighbor is appealing. Maybe it’s the dark hair she can’t seem to keep tamed that has his fingers itching.

4.0 out of 5 stars Realistic, slow burn romanceReviewed in the United States on August 10, 2021Verified PurchaseReally enjoyed this slow burn, second chance romance that centers around newcomer Trudy and Alaska native Deak. The attraction is instant from the moment they meet and it’s the friction from the beginning that sparks the initial interest. Deak is still grieving the loss of his wife and he’s got plenty of his own demons. Trudy is a headstrong, independent woman who’s out to prove not only to herself but the rural townspeople that she can tough out the winter. The romance is a definite slow build but I enjoyed the journey Trudy and Deak take to find what they both want and need.

The best part of the book was the realism and the immersion in the rough, pioneer-like, brutal and rugged lifestyle mixed with a variety of characters and the beautiful landscape.

The characters, Tru and Deak, are well developed and engaging. Tru has pulled up stakes in California and moved to Alaska to homestead in a small cabin needing loads of work before winter. Deak is suffering from the accidental death of his wife. Together they are better than apart. His knowledge of the region and the locals allows Tru to get the help she needs without becoming too dependent on Deak. This story was engaging and hard to put down

Just who is the hunter and who is the hunted? HEART OF THE HUNTER BY CHERIME MACFARLANE

Jay Leighton is back from Afghanistan and happy to bury himself in the solitude of the Copper Basin. He is a hunter and a loner trying to heal scars; emotional wounds brought back with him. The last thing he needs to be brought face to face with the loveliest woman to move to the Basin in the last year. His head is not ready; his heart is already lost. Leda is a teacher just out of school, who has not had time for love; Jay takes her by surprise. A soft-spoken slightly broken man who lives with only his dog, Licker, for company, Leda sees something in Jay she needs to pursue. But Leda is worried about her reputation in the tiny community of Kenny Lake. She should stay away from Jay. But can she? Just who is the hunter and who is the hunted?

Jay and Leda’s story is so beautiful, as moving as the setting that wraps around it in such detail I could imagine being there with them. I enjoyed how Leda’s experience gave her a special understanding of Jay and his PTSD, as well as that her own anger issues made her real and someone that Jay wasn’t intimidated by. Her reasons for being angry, the school issues, added another layer of depth that showed us a side of both her and Jay that made them even more endearing. Jay’s brother and sister, and even his doctor were nicely drawn sinking me deeper into a reality where I am more an outsider more like the doctor. I also adored Licker. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series. I didn’t read any other parts, so I can attest that you can start right here as the story in this book is self -contained and fantastic.
