4.5*

This slim volume caught my eye, aimed I imagine at 5-7 year olds and is designed to inspire a wonder of some of the world’s fantastic sights.

You are welcomed on board Angelic Airlines and looked after by Captain Frankie as he flies his plane to seven extraordinary wonders, both natural and man-made. There are several fun and interesting facts for each place visited and the flag of the applicable countries are illustrated.

This book is just made for every budding Andy or Dora the Explorer and might well sow the seeds for a bit of wanderlust in later years.

My slight quibble is the quality of the book. It is an overly soft, malleable product – reminiscent of an exercise book – with an easily-creased cover. It will inevitably be putty in the hands of smaller children and will therefore probably not last the journey!

One hundred years have passed since the Maca of Don returned. Daniel has taken his rightful place as Maca of Ishner. But his territory is broke, and losing money by the day. The sisterhood is battered and broken but not forgotten and some are still willing to murder other Thalians. Mari Collier hits this one out of the park with what may be her best work yet. This fast moving read has suspense, murder and intrigue that keeps you turning the pages. Best read after Rise and Fall of the Maca’s, you must at least read Return of the Maca in order to have the whole picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars HAIL Daniel, the Maca of Ishner

Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2016Verified PurchaseThis story is the sixth in the Maca of Don series. It contains the most intrigue of all the books. There are plots by the Sisters to overthrow all the Macas and kill all those who are males. There are those who support the Sisters, in both Ishner, one of the continents of Thalia and of Medicine, another continent. There is a plot to conceal two Sisters who murder the Thalian daughter of Llewellyn, the Maca of Don and his wife (called counselor). And there are questions to be answered about the Book of Gar, the Kenning Woman (does she have real visions) and their marriage. Finally there are questions to be raised about the new Maca of Ishner and how it is that no one knew who he was as he was being raised by the Maca of Don. The intricate details of the machinations of the Sisters and the others of the Council of the Realm are fascinating. After reading six books of this series I finally became convinced I knew what was going on here. The book is well written, is a cross over book but not for young teens or tweens. It is a good read that requires some willingness to do some rereading as you go along. I really enjoyed this one.

This book was one riveting Adventure. When France Hunter and her crew head down the Amazon River with a well-known Angler and a magazine Crew looking to do an interview with her is when the adventure really starts. Stranded in the jungle after their canoes float away and their emergency phone is destroyed the crew struggles to survive after an attack by wild animals. Every good story needs to crisis to keep up the momentum and this book does not disappoint! Ms. Drewa has hit a homerun in her first foray in fiction! I give this 5 stars for being the rousing romantic adventure it is.

Have Annie and Tom made the biggest mistake of their lives, uprooting their whole family only to end up living in a dilapidated caravan in the middle of building site?

It’s the winter of 2003. Annie and Tom have itchy feet. Living and dying in the same small area of Newcastle, England, and never seeing any other part of the world doesn’t appeal to them one bit. But where, on this great big planet, would they be happy?
New Zealand or Australia: too far away.
Scotland or Yorkshire: not far enough.
Spain or France: Too dumb to learn a language!
So when Tom is offered a position as a tattoo artist, working in a brand new studio in Cork city, Ireland, the decision is made and their adventure unfolds.
Travelling by ferry in their trusty camper van Tom is first to arrive. While he is getting settled into his new job and looking for somewhere to live, Annie is up the walls dealing with everything back in Newcastle.
One sunny morning in July Annie waves goodbye to family, friends and the place she’s called home since the day she was born, and sets off for her new life in Ireland with Tom and their three sons: seventeen-year-old Jack, sixteen-year-old Jamie and Robin who is seven.
Each member of the family shares a different level of excitement and enthusiasm as they settle into the mouse and ant infested bungalow they rent from a local farmer for a year.
Eventually their goal is in sight when they spot their dream house: an almost derelict farmhouse in the beautiful countryside of West Cork. With no building experience, some very laid back local tradesmen and a budget about half of what they need to complete the work, they begin the renovation.
The building schedule goes nowhere according to plan and family life is strained to say the least.
Have Annie and Tom made the biggest mistake of their lives, uprooting their whole family only to end up living in a dilapidated caravan in the middle of building site? Or, will their dream of a self-sufficient existence in their beautiful country farmhouse materialise.
Read Annie’s journal and experience the laughter, the tears and the many nervous breakdowns that ensue as the family’s re-location story unfolds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adored itReviewed in the United States on October 24, 2016Every now and again you pick up a book with hardly any ratings and you think, I’ll just give it a try. Well let me tell you something, this got to be my favourite read of the year. Annie moves to Ireland and live in a caravan until the house is rebuilt. Nothing unique there? This is a brilliant journey, sometimes sad, uplifting and laugh out loud funny. This must have been some journey and difficult to come out the same sane person. I loved this book. Get it now it’s a cracker.

GRAB THIS THRILLING SAGA WHERE TYNDRA TURNS TO ARDNYT BY A. NICKY HJORT

where tyndra turns to ardnyt blurb.jpg

In the center of a magical world there grows a beautiful and terrible chasm of climbing plants. On one side of the Ivy Wall we find the hell-of-Tyndra, on the other, the heaven-of-Ardnyt. But legend has it that in the middle…lives a preternatural beast that imprisons and tortures the children from both sides.

When the war against time begins, Azza will have to cross over the Ivy Wall, something that has never been done before by a living being. But if she does make it through, she just might discover who she really is and how she became trapped in this alternate reality.

A fairytale at heart, this is the first chapter in the epic saga of the youngest and most fickle of the four Norn Sisters. The same feisty immortal creature who must escape her inherent inner darkness to learn the meaning of love.

A veritable palindrome from start to finish, the narrative of Where Tyndra Turns to Ardnyt journeys through duality to discover what shocking truths emerge when up becomes down, life becomes death, suffering becomes release, and the most unexpected endings become the most surprising beginnings.

Welcome to a place where forwards and backwards are exactly the same direction. Here Where Tyndra Turns to Ardnyt.

The First of the Norn Novellas!

December 14, 2016Format: Kindle EditionI first read this story as part of the Winter Lites collection. “Where Tyndra Turns to Ardnyt” is a true palindrome, a world mirrored backward and forward. This story is a standout reminiscent of the best works of Neil Gaiman and Charles De Lint, with the beauty of your favorite fairy tale and the brilliance of your favorite classic. It’s impossible not to fall in love with Azza as you share her journey. I can’t wait for the next novella to be released!
