Edmisten has a wonderful gift!

I love how Trish Edmisten brings her characters to life and puts them in realistic situations. This is the second book I’ve read by her.
Joel is self-conscience about his missing leg, but his best friend, Slade, is paralyzed and will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. They joke and tease each other but when the PTSD hits they’re there for each other.
Then Joel meets Courtney and finds he’s falling in love but has his reservations.
I couldn’t put this marvelous book down!
I highly recommend Standing on His Own!

Loved this story!

Going into this story after reading the blurb I went into the story expecting one thing, but what I got was completely different! This story was wonderfully written and touched on a subject that is not talked about very often. It was like a breath of fresh air, and I absolutely loved it! There was a twist I just didn’t see coming! The characters within the story were all great. I loved how they were not perfect, And that they all seemed to have a little secret, I really want to find out what each of their secrets is! Nate and Natalie were a great couple. I really liked how Natalie was so supportive of Nate. The book had many laugh out loud moments for me which was great! I love a book that can make me laugh. It was also quite emotional, made me tear up a couple of times. I could feel Nate’s anxiety through the book, I just wanted to reach inside and tell him that everything was going to be ok!
The book had a very in-depth look into the MMA world. I could see that the author really researched this subject, I may have learned a thing or two myself about the industry. I also really loved that the cover model has a story of his own to tell! I really loved that he is on the cover of this fantastic book. You shouldn’t feel a need to hide who you are and this story gives hope to others who may find themselves in similar situations. This is a beautiful story of finding your way and finding that person who will be with you through thick and thin, they are always by your side and loving you unconditionally. I can’t wait to read the stories that will come next in this series.

Awww this book! I love all the Nice brothers but I had a special place for Oliver. He was the nerd, who wrote books and was super quiet, and kept a secret from his brothers. He just pulled at me. X is the big and bad tattoo artist! I love the arguments over songs, all the t-shirts I want to own, between the brothers and the artists, and i love the rapport they have! They all give each other a hard time out of love. I love Oliver’s parents and how obsessed his dad is with a tattoo and how his mom is just on top of things with him. Like all their relationships are so unique, X and Ollie, his parents, X with the shop, and the Nice Brothers I love them all!
I can’t wait for the next story!!

Exactly what I was hoping for!

I have read (and loved) each of the previous Nice Ink books, and this was no exception. I wasn’t sure what X and Oliver’s story would involve, and I wasn’t expecting some of the twists in the book, but they just made the story even better. The simple joy of the characters in each other was heartwarming, especially in these uncertain times. I received an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Oh my god. This book. All the feels. ALL. THE. FEELS. After running across the recommendation for Trish Edmisten in another author’s Facebook group I read book one in the Nice Ink series. After finishing that book (a five-star read) I immediately grabbed this book and devoured it! Derek and Flynn, the main characters of this book, were introduced in book one. Derek is a cop (a hot gay guy with handcuffs) and Flynn is a tattoo artist (hot gay guy covered in ink). Derek initially meets Flynn when he gets a tattoo from one of Flynn’s coworkers (who ends up dating Derek’s brother), and is immediately attracted to him. Flynn is attracted to Derek but is resistant to becoming involved with anyone. Flynn is an abuse victim and his feelings about attraction and sex are very complicated. Flynn is “coerced” into a date with Derek, but finds himself enjoying the date. Derek quickly realizes he must approach his relationship with Flynn differently. He makes Flynn realize that he wants more from him than just sex. He wants all that Flynn has to offer.I absolutely devoured this book. I stayed up too late, was reading at work, and sitting in my car on my lunch break to finish this book. Flynn is such a sensitive soul. He suffered so much in his childhood. He fought for himself and has overcome so much. Derek is a self-assured, openly gay cop. He is naturally protective and is devoted to his family. Ms. Edmisten did such an amazing job building, describing, and bringing these characters to life. The understanding, compassion, and support that Derek showed to Flynn brought literal tears to my eyes. And of course, the sexy times are HOT HOT HOT! And there is a HEA for this amazing couple. I can’t recommend this book and this series enough! Read it now!!

I really loved this book and it’s tough to write a review that doesn’t have spoilers. I guess I’ll just have to settle for saying that Nate and Natalie are very well-written and believable. You care about the issues they face even if you’ve never faced anything like it in your life. I’m very happy I bought this book. My review might be boring but the book is definitely not.

In this second book of the New Beginnings, all the characters from the first book are back and we get to see more of Joel and his best friend Slade. Both of them have suffered both physically and emotionally after their time in the army and they are trying their best to cope. This story centers around Joel and the girl he meets, Courtney. Their first couple of encounters don’t go well, but still, there is something between them and Joel is determined to pursue a relationship with Courtney. This books delves into PTSD (which both Joel and Slade suffer from) and the difficulties living with it.

Love without prejudice

Although this book is a standalone, it is more enjoyable if you read the first 3 books in the New Beginnings series. The hero, Ken, was introduced in the first New Beginnings book, while the heroine, Cassandra, is a new character. Ken is blind and the author does a good job of both showing the challenges a blind person may face, without invoking any feelings of pity. Both characters are likable and their relationship unfolds naturally.
