A WONDERFUL STORY OF HOPE –ANGEL OF THE WILLOWS BY ANGELA GASCOIGNE

It’s a mid-summer evening on the huge, modern Elmwood Estate. A new tenant loiters, unsure where, exactly she needs to go. A sensation of dread eventually guides her to The Willows, a tiny cul-de-sac of four properties tucked away at the farthest corner. The tension in the air feels like an electrical charge and Rebekah fears she might have bitten off more than she could chew when she agreed to act as helper to Julian, Guardian Angel of Hopless Cases. But what choice did she have? Due to her relentless wailing in the Abyss, every soul in the Kingdom of Heaven had been driven to the end of their tether. So Julian offers her a second chance. Her task is to help some mortals even more hopeless than herself and in the process try to win back the love and trust of Luke, the love of her life. If she fails, there’s only one place she’s going – downstairs! But laying her hands on her larger-than-life neighbours, in order to heal them is sometimes easier said than done, With Obnoxious Audrey’s emotional outbursts, Rebekah’s chances of healing her seem impossible. And pretty soldier-girl, Gillian is stuck to Luke like a bad smell that just can’t be eliminated. Rebekah’s allocated time on Earth is ticking away. With every passing day she becomes weaker and she is still nowhere near completing Angel Julian’s task. Her beautiful wings have long-since turned to dust. What will be her fate? Rebekah aka Ruby forms friendships like she’s never known before in this story of true love.

Vision Quest5.0 out of 5 starsRomance, love, friendship and redemption.

December 14, 2014Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI am going to confess to loving “Angel” stories. Eons ago I use to watch all of Michael London’s ”
Highway to Heaven” series and I ended up with tears in my eyes at the end of nearly episode. LOL
While living, Rebekah was a drug addict who fell in love with Luke. Though Luke loved her, he walked away from her until she could clean up her act and become drug-free. She cleaned herself up and Luke ended up proposing to her. BUT one of Rebekah’s former drug buddies dumped a roofie into her drink. She ends up overdosing and dying in Luke’s arms. Luke was devastated and believed it was a relapse.

Feeling hurt and rejected and not wanting Luke to think that she was at fault, Rebekah made a huge fuss in heaven. Finally she was tasked with going back to earth to live amongst some mortals who desperately needed help and guidance. The deal was, IF she made a positive difference on earth, she would once again become mortal. If she didn’t, she would travel the downward road to hell.

What a great start to an angel story. The challenge for Rebekah is that the people she is sent to help out, are pretty hopeless. Will she be able to make a difference before her time runs out?

Author, Angela Gascoigne has done a FABULOUS job in creating a cast of characters with real problems, challenges and “devils.” I found myself turning pages faster and faster to find out what would happen. Will Rebekah redeem herself in the eyes of Luke? Will she get him back? Will she be able to stay on earth or will she be banished to Hell?

This is a great “feel good” story. Romance, love, friendship and redemption.

Review of Chance by Carolyn Bowen

Chance is a gripping psychological thriller that takes the lid off the underbelly of Atlanta, Georgia, the various cultures at play, the sleaze, the Chinese mafia. Adding to the intrigue, the involvement of the CIA. Meet tough, no-nonsense lawyer Sydney Jones, her beefy bodyguard-lover Walker and washed-up rock star Roxanne who attempts to lure Walker back to her side and ends up accidentally dead for her trouble. I particularly enjoyed the complexity of Sydney’s unexpected and unwanted pregnancy.

The narrative has a strong forward drive that makes for very fast reading. Written in third person personal, the story flits seamlessly from character to character in a fluid jump cut style, an approach that takes a moment to get used to but works well. Bowen’s pastiche of character-led vignette’s adds to the tension, lending a sense of urgency. Sacrificed is the deep point of view of the contemporary thriller – this technique applies especially to psychological thrillers – and Chance is light on dialogue and long action scenes, again, key drivers of the thriller genre. Nevertheless, Bowen has deployed a narrative style that captures the reader and keeps them turning the pages until the very end. Well written with good plotting and pacing and enough intrigue and twists to keep you on your toes, Chance will keep you guessing, waiting for the pay off at the end. Recommended to those after a lighter read in the thriller genre. Chance will also appeal to those after strong female leads.

The story is an intriguing spin on fallen angels and demons ~ His Soul to Hold (Dark Knights of Heaven Book 2) by TW Knight

Soulless and exiled from Heaven the Dark Knights have not abandoned their duty. For millennia they’ve battled demons, protecting human kind from Lucifer’s servants. Less than a year ago hundreds of demons escaped Hell world-wide, stretching the Knights resources to their limits. Now they face the greatest challenge of all—discovering love.

Breanna Thorn spent the last ten years fighting demons with her twin brother Sam, and she’s damn good at it. But at twenty three all she really wants is a normal life with dating, college and quiet. To balance the life she wants and the life she has, Bree studies demons and other supernatural creatures in hopes of better understanding the enemy. When she meets fallen angel Bass, Bree encounters a complication she never saw coming—love.

Bass’ persona of hedonism begins to crumble when he meets Breanna. She’s beautiful, intelligent, a kick ass fighter and the vessel for his immortal soul. He knows he’s no good for her but no matter how hard he tries to make Bree hate him; she keeps finding a way into his heart. He’ll do anything to keep her safe even if it means giving up everything he is.

After their parents are killed by monsters, demons, Sam Thorn focuses his life on protecting his sister and hunting the creatures that changed their lives. Now he finds himself swept up in a world where he’s surrounded by monsters and at risk of losing his sister—something he cannot, will not allow. When the rage burning inside him breaks free Sam finds he is a greater danger than the monsters he fears.

Hogart once walked the halls of Heaven, now he battles with voices in his head driving him further and further into madness. Being taken in by his fellow fallen angels, The Dark Knights, is both a blessing and a curse. Their energy quiets the demon within him but now he is permanently housed with the twins Sam and Breanna. The voices insist he kill them; his heart says otherwise.

I am an avid reader of paranormal and I would certainly recommend this book. The story is an intriguing spin on fallen angels and demons. I can’t wait to see where the author takes these fallen angels and their soul-keepers. Along with Bass’ soul-keeper Bree we are introduced to Bree’s brother Sam and a new fallen angel, Hogart. The character development is handled well and a little more complicated in this book as the charactors are faced with self doubt, PTSD and questions about their own future. More secrets and complications are revealed creating more questions and another mystery.
